Suffice to say my ideas were pretty bad from the very start, and I couldn't seem to shake off a picture of Henrik Ibsen, in space, writing one of his greatest plays ...

I have another one, with the same theme, featuring Knut Hamsun, but I didn't bother with finishing that one. maybe I'll upload it later.

In the end, I did not submit any of them. But I do think it turned out kind of cool anyways

Halfway through my first semester on Master level. Presentation helt today, and it's safe to say that it didn't go that well. The presentation itself went fine, as usual, but the feedback was rough. And well deserved.

In short, I am trying (emphasis on trying) to design and build a lounge chair. It was originally inspired by the 1960s Scandinavian furniture design, but during the course of the project I tried to add something more, lets call it 'added value'. This could either be added functionality or just character - which is important if you want to design furniture today (make it stand out = essential)

Ok. Enough background information.

3rd year at the Oslo School of Architecture and Design

Yesterday at 08:00 in the morning, after working days and nights, I handed in my assignment for the spring semester. At 15:00 the same day i held my presentation, it was a heavy affair to say at least.

But it went fine. Beyond all expectations actually.

The case was about designing a new magnifying lamp concept for Luxo, which gave me strict guidelines for which functions that had to be included.

In short, I based my concept on replacing the conventional magnifying lens with a digital camera and an transparent OLED-display. OLED is also used as lighting, in total two of them, which can be dimmed up or down according to the user's need.

The concept is called Antares and is surely the design of magnifying lamps to come.

The model is fully handmade by myself, 1:1

Dining Table v2.0 operational

This is how it turned out.

The tabletop is made of massive pine, glued together and sanded down, then 2 layers of dark brown lacquered and finalized with finishing oil, which makes it shine.

I'm very satisfied with how it turned out, and how the warm color matches my chairs. Well composed. high-five for that, Audun! High-five to you too ... Audun.
Er, right.

The tabletop rests on trestles bought on IKEA for the ridiculous amount of ...65 NOK a piece, which is like $12, and they do seem stable enough. Can always replace them later on if preferred.

I'm a huge fan of the non-stackable Eames design classic, the DSR chair.
I finally got around to spend way too much Norwegian coin on 3 more of them, already being in possession of one bought earlier. 4 surely is the magic number when dabbling with dining chairs. Or well, I guess *at least* 4 or more if you got enough space to fill, money to spend and friends to invite.

Here, seen nicely placed by my tiny-apartment-sized dining table/desktop, which is a project I never bothered to finish. Been working on a version2.0 during the last week, hoping it will look as pretty as I have allowed myself to imagine.

Linje – The Norwegian Coffee Experience

I've touched by this earlier, but with the recent attention, here's a reprise:

We've had a lot of feedback on our espresso maker in the course of the last weeks. Thanks to Øystein for sending out pictures and information about the project to various blogs and magazines, a good job there.

The concept revolves around the use of wood and distinct aesthetic character to create a coffee machine, which strikes one as a piece of furniture, not just regular kitchenware.
Inspired by the nordic nature surrounding us, we sketched out a whole array of different ideas.
Choosing the one we liked the most, we made a mockup model, analyzed its strengths and weaknesses and then went on to make our prototype.

So I had to choose.
Either, I could drive out to the nearest IKEA warehouse and spend a minor amount of Norwegian coin on an OK bookshelf, which most certainly would satisfy all my literate needs,
OR,
I could make one myself.

The latter will in most cases prove a lot more costly, but in return you can make it your bookshelf.

Inspired by the modular design of Montana, I made this sketch:

The shelves are to be wall-mounted. The apartment is small and I want to make the most out of what floor-space I have. This also makes vacuum cleaning easier, which I consider to be a plus.

These are the "novel-sized" bookshelves, I will be building at least three larger sized ones for those infamous coffee-table books.

12mm birch birch plywood make up the bodies of the shelves. The exterior is painted with an acrylic white paint (the same as used on the walls and ceiling of the apartment) and the inside treated with a dark brown lacquer.

William Kempton, a class mate of mine, wanted to shoot some pictures of an earlier school assignment (outdoor-one-time-use cutlery, same assignment as my eco-friendly cutlery), it was for his portfolio and he wanted me to be the model.

As the photoshoot with Mariko, it was a lot of fun, albeit very cold (The photographs were taken outside, in -15 °C)

Putting together some lightning in my soon to be apartment, heavily inspired by, amongst others, Ingo Maurer.

It consists of 6 'Tertial' lamps (the standard IKEA desktop lamp).

I will be spray painting them and arrange new wiring, so more pictures to come!

update: the lamps are looking rather nice now with the black/magenta color combo, just wiring and the correct kind of bulbs left

These 3D printed shoes by Freedom Of Creation made several appearances (I'm not sure exactly who the designer is).

On my way to school today, I dropped by Galleri Ramfjord to take a look at their latest exhibition.
I noticed a painting from the previous exhibition by Henrik Uldalen. It was half-wrapped up in plastic, just about to be shipped off it seemed. Funny thing was, I actually spent more time looking at that painting than the ones hanging on the walls.

I'm in awe. Great inspiration for amateurs like myself.

Ok. So I haven't made anything new and exciting. This isn't even remotely creative, BUT, as the rebel I am, here goes:
I just finished my first Oslo half marathon, and it went rather well for a first timer: 1.38.55. Everything felt good until the last 3 kilometers, where I started getting those classic "why on earth am I doing this again? Is this supposed to be ... FUN?! I could be at home, eating fish fingers, drinking coke and masturbating, dreaming of girls"-thoughts, which is to be expected really.
Next time, I'm aiming at 1.25.00!

Anyways: medal, the number sheet and my dear Adizero Aegis running shoes.
And since I'm finally done with this, I can start using my newly bought Nike Streak 3 shoes, which weights almost nothing and which I am going to use for those really really fast exercise runs. My legs are going to hate me for this (until they get used to the constant pounding from the lack of padding!)

All in all a good day.

Ideen dreier seg rundt oppladbare lysenheter, der hver enkelt består av to (2) profiler som festes sammen via en enkel skyvelås. Disse kan så settes inn i en ladestasjon som både kan monteres hengende på vegg eller stående.
Lysene er egnet for både innebruk eller ute, alt ettersom.

Nytt prosjekt igang

Neste prosjekt på planen er en dobbel oppgave; lag en flaske til en grapefrukt- og tonicdrikk. Flasken skal kun romme 2dl og skulle kunne sprøytestøpes. Vi skal samtidig lage et Kindereggkonsept, bestående av et leketøy satt sammen av minst to deler. De to oppgavene har samme innleveringsfrist noe som i praksis betyr dobbel dose arbeid.

Her er skissearbeidet mitt fra flaskeoppgaven så langt. Hyppig bruk av akvarell og tusjpenn er et stikkord. Denne uka blir det 3D-modellering.

Prosjekt - Produksjonsteknikk: plastbestikk

Plastbestikk for turbruk bestående av to separate deler som kan festes sammen ved klikkmekanisme.
Bestikket er tilrettelagt for sprøytestøp i bioplast, så skulle man glemme seg og kaste bestikket i naturen vil det brytes ned etter 64 (ish) døgn. Hendig.

An almost complete Iron Man suit made entirely of cardboard. Had to simplify it a lot, so it's not remotely identical to the *real* suit. What a shock :P
